Driving southwest from Las Vegas on Interstate 15, travelers cross the Nevada–California state line near Primm and enter the vast Mojave Desert, where broad valleys, rugged mountain ranges, dry lake basins, creosote-bush flats, and distant volcanic formations create a dramatic open landscape. Services become less frequent east of Apple Valley, so drivers should carry water, maintain adequate fuel, and check weather and road conditions before departure; desert heat can be dangerous, while strong winds, flash flooding, construction, and traffic incidents may affect the route.
